Mark- Austin, Texas
Mark – Austin Tx – part 1 Carla Cole
Several years ago there was a young man named Mark who lived with his grandmother. They lived in a home in Austin, TX, that was located on an old military base. The home had once belonged to a military doctor, and his office was still a part of the home where Mark and his grandmother lived.
Mark’s grandmother had turned the waiting room into a living room, and the old examination rooms had become bedrooms. Now I said Mark lived with his grandmother, but there were definitely several other people that lived in the home…
Directly off of the living room was a long hallway leading to the other rooms of the house. Mark and his grandmother experienced many strange noises in the home and often found things misplaced. Mark and his grandmother thought there might be ghosts in the house, but seemed content to live with whatever ghost had joined them there.
One night, however, a strange thing happened. Grandma had decided to get up during the night and go to the bathroom. She didn’t bother to turn on the hall light, because she knew her way in the dark, and didn’t want to get too woken up. As she walked down the hall toward the restroom, she suddenly walked right into a solid substance. She reached out to feel where she was, thinking perhaps she had become confused in the dark. Her hand came into contact with a man’s chest. He was much taller than her; in fact, his chest was taller than her head. As she reached up to feel the man standing in front of her, she became terrified, thinking an intruder had entered her home. In her panic, she reached for the wall to turn on the light. When she flipped on the switch… the hall was empty. She trembled with fear, knowing she had just experienced a large male ghost in her home.
The ghost did not attack her at that time, however I am sure the ghost knew she was coming down the hall. What could his motive have been to stand in her way? Why didn’t he stay in her view when the lights came on?
Analysis:
Ghosts are entertained by humans. They love to scare, confuse, and rattle us. This ghost knew grandma was coming toward him, and I imagine he positioned himself so she would walk right into him. Why? Because he knew he could stir emotion from her. He knew she would be half asleep, and when she walked into him she would be scared. Ghosts thrive on that energy our bodies create. Evil ghosts particularly like negative energy, and the fear the ghost instilled in grandma was definitely negative. The Bible tells us evil spirits want to take advantage of us whenever they can, and when we are ill or half-asleep, we are more vulnerable.
2 Corinthians 2:11 – Lest Satan should get an advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices.
This ghost also was sending grandma a message. He wanted her to know that he was in her home, and he was intimidating, threatening, and not afraid of her. He knew that inner fear would fester inside of her, and keep her from being totally relaxed and settled in her own home. He knew he could now keep her on edge by an unexplained sound or footstep. He was beginning to take control of the home.
The ghost disappeared from view when the lights came on. Why do you suppose he did that? Wouldn’t he have been more frightening if she had seen him? There are several possible answers to these questions.
First, it may have simply been the beginning of his terrorizing, and his plan was to become more aggressive as time past.
Second, he may have wanted there to remain some doubt in the grandmother’s mind. Confusion is also a negative emotion, and if grandma becomes unsure of what she has just experienced, it becomes easier to scare her again the next time.
Or perhaps, this ghost simply did not want to be exposed. Evil ghosts like to let us know they are there, but never let us really see them clearly. They hide, because as the Bible says, all evil is content in the dark and withdraws from the light.
Ephesians 6:12 – For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of the world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
At any rate, the ghost was not finished in this home. Next week join me for part 2 of this story.
